It Has Been Good

Well, Dan had four job interviews yesterday. He feels really good about all of them. We should be hearing from them within the next few days. I'm really excited for Dan. He has worked so hard for this and he's finally here on the brink of his actual career. It's such a wonderful feeling to have him be at this point.

We're really having a fun time up here at the cabin. Ethan loves the water and playing with all of his cousins. He's having so much fun!

Well We Made It

We made it up to Bear Lake. Dan has to go back down later in the week for like half a day for interviews for nursing jobs but we'll still have fun. We're just hanging out here. I'll probably be posting some pictures later in the week.

Tests...

I'm not even the one taking the test and I'm nervous...Dan is taking his NCLEX right now. It's funny how a little questionnaire has so much weight in determining how your future will be. I know we just have to wait and see, but I'm not a patient person. Anyone who knows me knows that. Waiting kills me every time...for anything. I have no choice this time though. It's not as if I can go up to the Utah Department of Occupational & Professional Licensing and perform a shakedown to get his results, however effective my the illogical part of my mind thinks that may be. We just have to wait. That seems to be the story of my life lately. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting.

My Birthday...

I've been meaning to write about my birthday for the last couple of days, I just hadn't gotten around to it yet. I'm the big 28 this year. I've been okay with this, but I can't help but cringe when I think that I'm only two years away from the dreaded 30. The funny thing is I'm older now than some of my Young Women leaders were when I was in that group at church. At the time, I thought they were old. I guess I was wrong, or maybe they were acting older. I definitely don't feel old though, at least not most of the time.

I really had a good birthday. I got to hang out with my mom. She took Ethan and I to lunch at Chili's. I love that place. Ethan was so cute. We were getting ready to leave when he realized that he didn't have any more of his drink left. He turned to the waitress and said, "Excuse me. I get some more?" It was funny. They put it in a little to go cup for him. As far as everything else, I got some wonderful cards from people and some great gifts.

Yesterday, Jenny and I let our moms watch the kids and we went out to Cafe Rio for my birthday. That's one of my favorite places to eat. We went to the one in Taylorsville...and we just happened to get caught in that really bad storm, but we were okay. It was fun eating out without the kids. After that, we hung out with the kids at Jenny's mom's house. The kids wanted to be outside, so we let them play outside in the rain while we sat under the patio. Ethan didn't want to leave. He loves playing with Julia and Jack so much!

All in all, it was a good birthday. I'm happy to be alive and happy to have a birthday. It's the only time I can get Dan to stop at Old Navy or any other store without him complaining...

He's Done!

Dan had his graduation on Friday night! It was a lot of fun to see him up there getting his diploma. He is officially an RN now! He takes the state licensing exam on Friday. After the ceremony, we went out to Rodizio's and had dinner. It is one of Dan's favorite places. Everyone was so proud of him. They even made the people at Rodizio's sing to him.

Ethan Is Three!

I went and got Ethan's three year old pictures taken a bit ago and we just got them this week! They turned out really cute even though Ethan didn't want to cooperate. Here you go!

Endorphins & Waiting

So I'm into week two of going to work out. My plan is to go at least three times each week. I've already met that for this week. I'm probably doing four this week! I love the rush that I get. I can go to the gym in a completely bad mood, ready to rip someone's head off, and then afterward, after working out all of that aggression, I'm calm...I'm happy...I'm out of my own head for once. I has really helped my anxiety/depression stuff. Brain chemistry is an interesting thing that way.

I've been really struggling with some things as of late, especially since a few people around me have gotten what I want, but for some reason can't have yet. A couple of people I know are pregnant right now, not by choice. They're young. I wish them all the best, but it has to be hard when you didn't mean for something like that to happen. I'm having a hard time with it I guess because we have been trying for number two for a while now and my body isn't doing what it's supposed to do. I'm getting to the point where my body is starting to work, but it's just kind of a downer for me when someone who wasn't intending what I desire so badly ends up with the result that I want.

Exercising really seems to quell these feelings, that and reading my scriptures. I haven't read for the past few nights, but I need to get back on that. There has to be a reason why I haven't been blessed with a new baby yet. I just wish I knew that reason so that I could know what's ahead for me. Meanwhile, I'm doing everything I can to help my body along. I think the exercise will help. I'm also still taking the medicine to kick start things. The medicine seems to be working, we just haven't had anything take yet. Such is life I guess. I know we're supposed to have more additions to our family. I've felt that. I guess this is Heavenly Father's way of trying to teach me patience. I don't think I'm learning that anytime soon, but I'm trying. I'm trying to remember that things happen in God's time, not necessarily ours.

Here's to waiting in faith...

Thought For Today

One of the random things I thought about the other day while I was at the gym on the elliptical was this:

Could there be a way to harness the energy of all these people on the treadmills etc. to power the gym's electricity? I bet there's a way, but it would suck if you were the only one there working out.

Tagged...

Kerri tagged me with this, so I thought I'd do a post.

Okay here are the rules:

1. You link back to the person who tagged you.
2. Post these rules on your blog.
3. Share six unimportant things about yourself.
4. Tag six random people at the end of your entry.
5. Let the tagged people know by leaving a comment on their blogs
6. Enjoy the results!

Six unimportant things about me:

1. I have an Indiana Jones scar on my chin. I even went as Indiana Jones for Halloween one year. It was from an unfortunate mishap when I was little with my face hitting a heater vent.

2. I wrote a novel when I was about 13, it was never published.

3. I like reading some poetry, but I hated studying it in school. I think it's dumb to make kids interpret what the poet was thinking when they wrote this poem or that poem.

4. My first car was a Mazda MX-6. I only had it for three weeks. I was hit from behind and the car was totalled before I even made the first payment.

5. One of my earliest memories is sitting in the car, driving somewhere or driving home with my mom. We were near our house. I must've been two or three. We were in her little red car driving and listening to the radio. She asked me if I liked the song that was on the radio. I said that I did. Then she asked who my favorite singer was. I said Michael Jackson. Weird that I remember that, but I can remember sitting in the front seat and everything.

6. I think I broke my toe the night before Josh's wedding. I fell down the stairs and it's now different than the same toe on my other foot. It hurt really bad, but I still toughed it out and wore heels the whole day for the wedding.

I'm tagging whoever wants to answer this that reads my blog. If you do this, please let me know so I can read your random things.

Don't Do That To Me!

So today, the phone rings. I check the caller ID and it's Dan. We usually talk a few times during the day, so I answer it and he says, "I just got some really bad news." I'm thinking, somebody died, somebody got in a car accident, he got in a car accident, you know...all of those fun things your mind does. Your heart drops, you start preparing yourself for the worst. Anyway, so I say, "What?" and he says, "I just found out that all the deer tags are sold out." I kind of jolted because this was not what I was expecting to hear. Apparently, deer tags selling out is really bad news. Don't do that to me!

Later on, I had just put Ethan down for a nap and I'm getting ready to start working when he calls again. He says, "What are you doing right now? Is Ethan asleep?" I say, "Yeah. He's asleep. I don't know. Just sitting here getting ready to work. Why?" He says, "My gas gage got stuck again so I'm out of gas stuck between Tooele and Saltair. Can you bring me the gas can?" So upstairs I go, to wake up Ethan, get gas in my car, because ironically it was just about out of gas too, and get drinks, because it gets hot out there in the middle of nowhere, and off we went to rescue Dan. By the way he told me this news on the phone, I think his priorities are a little weird....deer tags selling out apparently is worse than running out of gas in the middle of nowhere because your gas gage said you had gas.

Just a little...

Sore...I know, I know, exercise means no pain no gain and all of that, but I'm just a little sore this morning. The last two nights, I have gone to exercise. It has been great and know the soreness will go away after I keep at it, but still it's not fun to be sore. Thankfully, I'm just a little sore. At least that means I didn't work myself too hard. Hmm....maybe Dan will let me go get a massage....

Another weird thing, yesterday I was getting Ethan dressed in the morning and I grabbed a pair of 5T shorts that I bought him at the beginning of the summer. These are the same shorts, mind you, that were a little bit long on him and that I had to cinch the waist up on just a month and a half ago. All of the sudden, they fit. They're no longer too long at all and the waist fits just right. Weird. I swear that boy will be taller than me by the time he's six! I mean, who heard of a three year old being that big! Oh well, I guess he got the tall genes from my grandpas and the big genes from Dan's side of the family.

Dan got his graduation stuff this week. He has an official cap and gown and everything. The graduation ceremony is next week. I'm excited for it. He's starting to get excited for it. I think telling him he had to go made him realize how much he needed the celebration at the end of all this work. We should be hearing from the state within the next week or so too to find out when he can take the NCLEX (state licensing exam). After that, he'll no longer be Dan, Student Nurse Extraordinaire, he'll be Dan, Male Nurse Extraordinaire!

My First Workout

Dan and I got a gym membership. We got a pretty good discount through his work and the location even offers free child care for when I want to go work out during the day. I went for the first time tonight. I really enjoyed it. Armed with my iPod, off I went. It was actually pretty quiet there tonight. It was nice to get back into the swing of things. I've kind of slacked off on the exercise thing lately. I used to go walking almost every day, but I've gotten out of the habit. Now, I can take the iPod, watch a little something on it, and escape for a bit.

I'm motivated right now to keep working out. Hopefully that holds and I'll stay motivated. I really want to move forward with it this time. Even after I get pregnant, I want to continue it. Everything I've read says it's good to exercise while pregnant as long as you're not pushing too hard. Hopefully since I'm starting before I'm pregnant my body will get used to it.

I always seem to feel better when I have a goal and when I'm working on a project of some kind, something for me. This is for me.

What A Great Weekend!

We really had a great weekend. It was the 4th of July, of course, which I love. I grew up celebrating this holiday with my extended family. In fact, I can't remember a time when I haven't gone to the fireworks in Kaysville and had lunch out there. We went to the parade in Kaysville first. It was really fun. Ethan had a great time, once he was able to kind of get the hang of what was going on. They threw a lot of candy to him. You can even see some in his hand when he fell asleep in the car in one of the pictures. He was so excited about that. He even got wet at the end when they had the fire hoses spraying everyone. He didn't like it while he was being sprayed, but afterward he thought it was great. He kept saying, "Mommy, I get a wet." It was cute.

After the parade, we went over to my Aunt Sharlene's for lunch. We had a barbecue and relaxed for a bit. We really had a great time. The kids played in the water and the adults just hung out. It was nice and relaxing, especially because my aunt has central air now. :)

After lunch, we took a car ride, where Ethan fell asleep. We wanted to go get some chairs and blankets for the fireworks and we went to pick up Nick. We went over to Aunt Lorraine's for homemade ice cream, another family tradition, and hung out there for a bit. The kids had a good time playing. I got some poppers to throw on the ground. Ethan liked them, but only from a distance. He would throw it like it was a grenade and run like crazy. It was really funny. He is so cautious for such a big burly boy. We went and snagged some dinner at Subway and then went up to the DATC where we had blankets set up for the fireworks. We played and visited until the fireworks started. Dan even got his glow sticks like he wanted and played with them with his brother. Ben and Lisa came and sat with us for the fireworks too. It was fun. Ethan didn't like the fireworks this year. He snuggled with me with his eyes covered the whole time. Oh well, maybe next year he'll do better. I think it was the noise of it all.

Saturday and Sunday were just spent recovering and relaxing from the weekend. We did a little bit of shopping and went to dinner on Saturday, but other than that we just relaxed. I took a nap yesterday and that was really nice. Sleep really is a wonderful thing.

Today I Am Grateful For...

Bumbling criminals. My name was on the list of people that had records on the backup tapes that were stolen from the courier working for University of Utah Hospital. Interestingly enough, I have never been treated there and the letter came to my parents' house in my maiden name so I figure it must've been when I was a kid.

Well the tapes are back and the people involved have been arrested. I thought it was especially funny when the sherrif said they "Definitely weren't techies." with a laugh. From the sounds of it, they were fighting over the $1,000 reward for the return of the tapes.

So stupid criminals, I salute you for being dumb and not being able to wreak havoc.
