With the election coming up, there have been a lot of words slung back and forth from both parties. One more recent addition to the slinging was a statement made by Hilary Rosen of CNN. When discussing whether or not Ann Romney, Mitt Romney's wife, was knowledgeable enough to address economic issues of women with her husband, Ms. Rosen said that Ann hadn't worked "a day in her life." Such a stupid statement, but it shows the true colors of some women out there. Ann Romney stayed at home to raise her five boys and went to school at night. If that isn't work, I don't know what is.
It seems like every time there is a discussion about a woman staying home with her children, especially with some in the media, it is either something where the women are uneducated, don't know any better, or are lazy somehow. I don't get that. Aren't they supposed to be feminists? Aren't they supposed to support any woman's right to choose how she lives her life?
I choose to be a mother to my children as my primary job. Believe me, it is a lot of work. I love my kids. I do other things on the side for myself like going to the gym, reading extensively, and even doing a bit of work from home. I still maintain though, my primary job is being a mother. I hate that somehow I'm viewed as less by some because I choose to be at home with my children. It was my choice. I wanted to do it. Just because I'm at home, doesn't mean I'm any less informed about the issues in politics, economics, or the world in general. I watch the news, read about current events and try to educate myself about all sorts of different things. Just because I'm not out "in the workforce" doesn't make me out of touch with the world. I still exist! I still have opinions that matter!
Our family is not rich by any means. When we set out to begin our family, it was in our plan for me to stay home with our children to raise them. We don't have nannies. We don't have a housekeeper. I'm the mom. Dan is a wonderful help with the kids. We're a team when he is home, and when he's at work, it's me. I don't live a life of leisure without a care in the world. It's hard work to make sure a household runs smoothly and that your children are learning/doing the right things. It's very rewarding, but it's still hard...especially when you've got a sick kid at 3:00 a.m. to take care of. It was my choice to live this way. I love it!
I'm all for choice. If you're a woman who works outside the home, that's great! More power to you! I have no problem with it. There are some mothers who choose to work and there are some who have to work due to economic reasons. You do the best with what you've got. What I have a problem with is the slinging of words about my choice. I don't begrudge you for working out in the world, don't begrudge me for working at building my family as my primary occupation. We all work hard. We should be banding together as women and humanity to lift one another up, not tear each other down about our differences.

Overdrive
My mind is running on overdrive right now. I'm not really sure why, but I seem to be hypersensitive to everything around me.
OCD is not fun. It's not even stereotypical clean freak type stuff all the time. Sometimes it's just being frozen by the constant string of thoughts you're being bombarded with. It doesn't make sense. It doesn't use logic. It can be all encompassing.
People are talking about mental illness more and more, but there's still a stigma associated with it. Sometimes I wish I had a "real" illness that people could understand. I wish it would behave logically. There are a lot of wishes there.
Oh well, such is life. You do the best with what you've got.

Invigorated
I am so happy that spring is finally here. Even though we got a bit of snow today, the first in a long while, it has now melted and temperatures look to be in the 60s at least tomorrow and even warmer on Sunday. I've missed the sun. I'm not a person that tans in the backyard, I'm far to pale for that, but just having that warmth and light again makes for such a better sense of well being. It leaves me feeling energized.
Easter is this Sunday. I was thinking about the seasons thing today and spring is a very fitting time to have Easter. We celebrate Christ being resurrected and are inherently reminded of it everywhere we look in the spring. Flowers are coming out, trees are blooming, and most important of all, the sun is finally shining. Christ is our light in this world spiritually and how fitting that we have spring to remind us daily in nature how bright that light truly is.
Happy Easter everyone!

Mommy's Heart
You want to save your kids from ever feeling any pain or anything bad. This is easy in the early years, they're with you most of the time. When they're little, a kiss and a hug fixes everything. They're back up, running, playing, and happy. When they're bigger and off to school it gets a little more tough. They go to school, they're away from home more. You worry about things like how the other kids will treat your kid, whether or not they'll have their feelings hurt, or whether or not those around them will understand just how special they are.
It's hard to accept the fact that, as parents, we can't protect them all the time. We learned all of these things when we were kids and our parents were there to pick up the pieces. Sometimes a kiss and a hug still fix everything and, if not, I'll be there to keep trying. Love you buddy.

Hey! Where's my Golden Ticket?
I was looking back on past posts and realized that there is far too much space in between each one lately. To remedy this, I've decided to do a post right now! Yay for me! As for us, we're living life and enjoying the journey...most of the time. I wasn't able to attend the General Relief Society Meeting as I usually do with my mom, but I recorded it on my DVR and I was able to watch it last night. I have to say, it was a good conference! One thing that is awesome about DVR though is you don't have to listen to the singing...shhh don't tell.
I really enjoyed President Uchdorf's talk about Forget Me Nots. It's so true that we tend to put everyone and everything else first before ourselves. I'm not saying we need to be selfish people, but we do need to take care of ourselves. I've found myself waiting for that "golden ticket" to make my life all better at different times in my life. It has taken a lot of growing up for me to realize that there is no "golden ticket" or if there is, it's not going to change my attitude about things. I also liked the part where he said that we're not perfect and Heavenly Father knows that, and that he also knows that the people we think are perfect aren't perfect either. It's so easy to get caught up in comparing your weaknesses to somebody else's strengths. It's a hard cycle to break, but it's so important to realize that Heavenly Father loves us individually, even with our imperfections.
As far as waiting for my golden ticket goes, maybe one day something amazing like that will happen, but I know of at least three things in my life (Dan, Ethan, and Sydney) that are better than any golden ticket could be.

Thinking...
Well, I've been doing a lot of thinking over the past month. We went to visit Grandma and Grandpa Cornia about a month ago because Grandpa was not doing well health wise. He passed away yesterday morning. I knew as I drove away that Sunday evening at the conclusion of our visit that it would probably be the last time I would see him in this life. I cried most of the three and a half hour drive home. It was really hard leaving. He knew his time was drawing near. I could tell by the way he was talking about things that he just kind of knew things were going that way.
We had a wonderful visit with Grandpa and all the family up there. Grandpa still had his mind and had us laughing a bit. He was still as "strong-willed" as ever. He was still Grandpa up until the very end. I am grateful for that.
He was a great man and he will be missed, but I know I will see him again. I know those that pass on do not go far. They stay around, watching over us, comforting us when needed, and blessing our lives even after death. I take such comfort in my testimony of the Gospel and in my knowledge of life after death. We all have our time here on Earth and Grandpa used his to the fullest.
Grandpa Cornia was a great man. He accomplished so much in his life. I love him so much and will miss him everyday. I think seeing his empty "chair" at the house when we go up to Idaho for the funeral will be hardest for me. It will make it real.
I love you Grandpa.

Do Not Go Gentle...
I recently read a book that had quoted this Dylan Thomas poem. It is so moving in the words that I wanted to share it here.
DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
It basically says to keep fighting. Do not go gentle. No matter what. I love the sentiment and the depth of this poem. It got me thinking a lot about how we often "go gentle" in our own lives. We feel weary and want to stop fighting. We are run down by our trials and want to stop. It comes to mind in these times that we should listen to these words. All we have in this life that is truly ours is our will. We should use it with passion.

I Just Felt Like It
I just felt like blogging today, so here I am. There are a lot of things running through my head right now, not unusual for me, but still. Anyway, things are going well at our house. We're just going on with the day to day stuff as usual, trying to get by. I'm trying to be a good mother and a good wife. I'm trying to be a better person. The past few nights I've started reading my scriptures more. I was doing really well with that, but have slacked off in recent months. It was nice to get back to it.
Right now, I'm in awe of what the forces of nature are capable of. I actually have an old friend in Japan right now. She lives here, but is Japanese and was there for a visit. She was there for the quake and lis looking for a way home now. Anyway, seeing the devistation of that tsunami and the aftermath has me awestruck. I pray for the people in Japan that they will find peace, whatever their situation, with the continuing effects of this tragedy.
In times of woe, people often like to blame God. God doesn't cause these things to happen. He is not punishing the world. These things happen and God does what he can to comfort us in our time of need. He will bless us in the way we need to be blessed...now that might not be the way we want to be blessed. We might wish for another outcome. I think this goes for anything in life. God will help us overcome our trials and be better for them. Losing so many people is something I can't even wrap my head around, but God is there for them just like he is there for all of us. Like the quote says, "Sometimes God calms the storm, and sometimes He lets the storm rage and calms his child."

Thinking...
It's one thing I can never seem to stop doing...I guess that's a good thing. If I'm no longer thinking, I may have had an annurism or something. Sometimes it's not so fun. Right now, I can't sleep, as usual, and the house is quiet. It gets so quiet sometimes even when there are others around. It's like there is a bubble separating me from joining the living sometimes. I know that's probably my depression talking, but nonetheless it's something I feel at times.
Lately, I've been thinking A LOT about people that have passed within the last few years, my mother-in-law Vicki, my Grandpa Page, my sweet cousin Lariann. It just seems that we always just want a few more minutes with them. I know they're around though. I think they look in on us from time to time. It doesn't make me miss them any less though. Sometimes it feels like they just passed yesterday. Other times it seems so long ago. Especially when I think of Vicki, Dan's mom, it makes me sad she's not here. I hope she knows she is missed and that I think of her often.
For Christmas, my sister-in-law Becki and my mother-in-law Linda, Dan's stepmom, finished one of the last Christmas projects Vicki was going to do for all of her kids. She always was doing that at Christmas. She loved to craft. It was so nice of them to finish it. Basically all of them were almost done. Just a few finishing touches. It was almost like she was there. It was so nice to just remember her and her love.
Sometimes I feel those that have passed on around me. Sometimes it's just for a quick "hug", but it's comforting nonetheless. There's nothing like a "hug" from Grandpa when you need it.
Sorry this post is so depressing. I've just been thinking about these things a lot lately. I guess my point is this, remember those that have gone on. Maybe they're not as far away as you think.

New Goal...
I am taking a cue from Shannon and I'm going to try to write more on my blog. I might not be as diligent as she has been, writing every day and all, but I want to try. Writing used to be so cathartic to me. I've gotten away from it. It's time to take that portion of "me" back.
So let's see. It's now 2011. I have two kids. Ethan is five and Sydney is just over a year. I love them dearly. Dan and I will be celebrating 11 years of marriage this year. That's a good thing. You know, marriage isn't always easy and it isn't always fun, but it definitely has some wonderful in betweens. Life is all about those "in between" moments. That's where our true lives exist.
Today was not a particularly great day. I've been spending my days at home a lot as of late. We have one car right now and also with Ethan in school it's hard to get out sometimes to see people. I've been sick the past few days, but I think I've finally turned the corner and I am starting to get better...hopefully. I hate feeling like I can't breathe. Sydney and I have the same thing. She seems to be getting better as well. I want it to be warm outside again. I am so sick of the gloomy clouds. It always makes my anxiety/depression worse.
While reading Shannon's blog, she talks about her depression. I just want to let her know that she is not alone on that road. A lot of the things she is feeling now, I have felt/will feel/am feeling now. On the up side, one thing that helps with my anxiety/depression/OCD is writing and getting the feelings out of me. In that regard, writing the blog should be good.
Today was one of those days where everything was driving me crazy and getting on my nerves. Gotta love that. Nothing in particular was different than usual, it was all just driving me crazy. The kids were somehow louder than usual, sleep wasn't as refreshing as usual, there was some crazy smell in my house that I couldn't figure out...it was all driving me crazy. I'm still trying to come down from that hightened "I want to punch something" feeling. Sometimes I feel like an emotional lightning rod. I seem to experience really intense emotion, whatever it is, be it happiness, sadness, anxiety, fear, etc. All of it is so intense. Sometimes I wish I had an off switch so I could just take a break from it for a while. I suppose having no feelings wouldn't be any better though. If you don't know the bad, you won't know the good...isn't that how the saying goes.
As far as my anxiety disorder is going, it's "handled." The funny thing most people don't understand is depression/anxiety is not totally a "will power" thing. It's a physiological one. I have a chemical imbalance that creates this reaction in my body. I try to take care of myself, eat relatively well, go to the gym regularly, and do the things I'm supposed to do for it. Some days are better than others. I still have the insomnia problem occasionally, but it's not as bad as it used to be. The crazy thing about this "craziness" (Dan hates it when I call it that) is that there's no reason for the feelings most of the time. You just "feel" like something is wrong or you "feel" like someone is judging you for something. Most of the time the logical side of your brain knows those feelings aren't valid, but emotions are a powerful thing. Maybe I should try to "master my emotions" like Spock and go for total logic...wait that won't work either. I'm too illogical.
If this sounds like I'm rambling...I am, and that's okay. It's my blog. I hope if anyone ever reads it maybe they will find some sort of kinship with me. Maybe someone is feeling the same way I feel and will know they're not alone. There are good days and bad days out there and sometimes, as a friend posted on their Facebook status the other day, "It's okay not to be okay all the time." We all have our moments. Some last longer than others...some are even longer than this post.

Looking Forward
Well, the doctor's visit was yesterday. I have to say, I'm feeling pretty okay about things...not great, but okay. The doctor thinks, based on my clinical symptoms, that I have some form of PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). We'll know more when we do some blood testing throughout my cycle, but it's looking like that's what I have. Basically, PCOS is a problem where your pancreas makes too much insulin because your body isn't processing it correctly. This, in turn, makes your testosterone levels rise and your estrogen and progesterone levels decrease, thus causing fertility problems. There are treatments to be done for it. One I'm already doing, taking better care of myself by eating well, trying to lose weight, and exercising. There is also a medication, actually a diabetes medication, that we'll be trying as well.
Speaking of weight loss...I lost another two pounds this last week! That puts my grand total from when I started on January 5 up to 10 pounds. It's so exciting. Hopefully I can keep things up. I'm doing my part of it, making sure to eat right, making sure to get to the gym, etc. Hopefully that continues to work.
As for me, I had a good cry last night. I'm sure there will be more tears in the future. My tears were not necessarily because of this diagnosis...I had suspicions of it before we even went to the doctor...it was more the fact that I even had to go down this road. Right now, I'm doing okay, but I'm sure I'll have good days and bad days. I know with continued faith in the Lord I can make it through. I really hope that a baby is at the end of all of this, but if there isn't, I'm incredibly lucky to have Ethan.
Now, we're looking forward, inducing a cycle, getting blood tests, doing the glorious glucose test (blah), and starting new medications. At the end of this, I'll at least be healthier than I am now, and that's always a good thing.

The Road Ahead
Have you ever been on a path in life afraid to move forward? Right now, that's where I am. I'm living unaware of what is going on within my body. I know the symptoms and I know the consequences, but as of Monday, I'll know what is going on...and to be honest, that scares me a little.
On Monday, I'm going in to the (DUN, DUN, DUN) reproductive endocrinologist, which is just fancy talk for...hormone doctor. There are symptoms I'm having, I know, as a result of my hormones being out of whack...the least of which is weird sweating and a sudden goatee...okay it's not that bad, but you know what I mean. Also, this hormone imbalance, I believe, is the root cause of me not being able to get pregnant over the last 15 months.
Infertility can really be a touchy subject. I've never been bitter about it, but I've been angry sometimes. I don't get angry with people, I'm more angry about the fact that I even have to go down this road. It comes and goes. As of right now, I'm pretty much at peace with it. I have a hard time every now and then, but if having another child is not in the cards for me, I'm okay with that. I'm happy with Ethan and our little family.
Sometimes when people are in my "situation" they get what Liz lovingly refers to as "baby rage." Basically, they get mad at anyone who is pregnant or has recently just had a baby because that person has what they want and can't have. I've actually heard of this a lot in talking with people. I've heard of friends and family members being afraid to tell others that they're pregnant because they don't want to hurt the "baby rager's" feelings or incur their wrath. I've personally never been that way. When I find out someone is pregnant, which happens a lot with people I know because of my age, I'm genuinely happy for them...and just a teensy tiny bit sad for me. I'd be lying if I said otherwise...and we all know everyone tells the truth on the Internet.
Personally, I know it's not my time to have a child right now. If that time never comes for me, then I'll be sad, but it will be okay. How could I miss out on Ethan's wonderful little heart by sulking in something that I couldn't change? How could I miss out on his little quirks like adopting his Mega Blocks construction worker guy as his "baby" or him telling me that his blankets "really aren't working" when he gets them tangled up? I couldn't do that to him or to me. Why miss out on something so wonderful. He'll only be this little once.
So, on Monday, I go in to this appointment. I'm hoping they'll at least tell me they can fix me or make the symptoms go away. If I get pregnant, so be it. It's such a relief to let go of that control, or percieved control, that I thought I had over this whole thing. It's in God's hands now. He sent me a beautiful little boy who I'm so grateful for (yes, even when he's making me crazy...okay maybe not in that moment but in reflection later). How could I cheapen that gift by worrying about something that I can't do anything about.
For those women out there who are pregnant right now, I'm so happy for you. You're bringing a little one into this world. You get to help guide and direct him, you get to enjoy him, but most of all you get to love him.
As for me, I'll keep my fingers crossed that they can find out what's wrong with my hormone levels. At least then I'll have an answer...not sure if I want one, that's kind of scary, but I think it will be good.

Change?
Today was the inaguration of President Barack Obama. Did I vote for him? No. Do I think he will destroy the country? No. I don't think any one person has the power to do that. I watched the proceedings today and I listened to his speech. It was a great speech and it was very inspiring. I guess my problem is the tangibles. I'm the kind of person that needs a plan to make things better, not just saying that they will. I need to know how.
I sincerely hope that his presidency is a good one. I think we'll be okay. I don't think he's the savior of our country like some feel though. I don't think one man can make or break the country. The president has power, but not as much as you would think. The power is spread between him, the House of Representatives, and Congress. It's that way for a reason, because one person doesn't always know the right thing to do.
Do I think we should support our new president? Yes. Does supporting him mean I have to agree with everything he does or how he does it? Nope. That's the other problem I've seen. People having this all or nothing attitude. He's our president now. That's not going to change. The best we can do is hope that he will do well and make our opinions known about what is going on.
I think some people...some not all...that voted for him did so because it was the warm and fuzzy thing to do. I think some people voted for him for the wrong reasons without knowing his platform an issues, but you get that with every election. I hope the change is good and the country moves forward from here with a new leader.
I'm just glad the election is over and I don't have to hear from each side arguing every other minute.

Just Drive Up...Have A Coke If You're Thirsty
I decided to write just a bit today. What a day. Nothing really unusual, but a cranky husband combined with not enough sleep equals beating the crap out of him (in my head people...no abuse here) at the gym. After that, I was surprisingly calm...imagine that. Anyway, after my workout Dan went to work and Ethan and I spent time together here at home. We watched American Idol and then...insert dramatic pause here...it was time for his bed time! Oh glorious day! I think you love your children more when they're asleep sometimes...
While surfing the Internet after Ethan went to bed, I found some videos online that some of my friends made in high school that my friend, Mikey, posted on Youtube. I watched a bunch of them and suddenly my mood was just a spark brighter. I was brought back to the days of walking to Sinclair for lunch to get a Coke and a hot dog and when my biggest problem was whether or not I had a ride somewhere. Back in those days, Jenny, Moby, Mikey, and I hung out a lot. I have some really great memories of those times. I'm so glad I found those videos. What a great reminder of the days before mortgage payments, student loans, and kids. All I had to worry about then was boys, Coke, and whether or not my parents would let me take our well worn station wagon on the weekend. I love my life now, but sometimes I really miss those moments. At least they're frozen in time in my memory.

New Year...Same Resolution
I guess I'm more "resolute" this year. Lately I've not been feeling myself and have been struggling with my depression a bit more. As a result, I've been "using" my drug of choice...food. This isn't a good thing as I've gained weight as a result. Well, I've decided to do something about it. Before, I stopped watching what I was eating because I was "waiting" to get pregnant...well...the waiting has gone on for over a year now and that's long enough. I'm going to get myself in order and maybe a pregnancy will follow later on. At least then I'll be more healthy when I do finally get pregnant.
I'm sick of feeling yucky and I'm sick of indulging in food because I "deserve" it. Food is a necessity for life and it can be enjoyed, but I shouldn't be using it to make me feel better. So, resolutely, I'm heading off into the territory of a healthier me. I hope by publicly declaring it I can do better and keep the goal. We'll see. I think I can do it.

Current Events...
I've recently had people ask me why I haven't posted anything on the election results yet. Part of it was that I wasn't sure how I felt about things yet. I am definitely not a democrat, and I definitely wasn't supporting Obama. I don't think he's completely amoral like Clinton though. At least he has the good sense to be faithful to his wife and try to be a good person. I don't think he's evil, I just disagree with the way he chooses to govern, at least somewhat.
Here's what I like about him. He is inspiring, a good speaker, and he is idealistic. Here's what I don't like about him, he uses a lot of "feel good" words without saying exactly what the plan will be. I'm a planner, I need to know how we're going to make this country "change." I understand that he can't necessarily lay out his entire plan right there in front of me in the few minutes he is speaking or doing a debate, but I expect some answers. I expect to find out how we are "changing" and what we are "changing" exactly. If I got in a car accident and it dented my car, that would be a "change" too, is that the kind of change he is talking about? I don't know. He never said.
I don't want socialized healthcare. We have the greatest healthcare system in the world. That is a direct result of capitalism. I agree that some people need the benefit of government healthcare, but definitely not everyone! People should be able to make their own way in this world and work hard for what they have. In the former East Germany, when it was still under communist rule, people were given everything they "needed," food, shelter, healthcare, etc. However, if you are given something without having to work for it then you take no pride in it. This whole socialistic attitude is why East Germany is still looking bleak and full of concrete buildings, poor people, and crime and West Germany is flourishing.
I don't believe that my tax dollars should just automatically go to people just because they are Americans. I'm proud of what I have worked for. I've worked hard. I think everyone should work, who is able, for the things they need and want in this life. That's not to say that I don't believe in charity. I absolutely believe you should help others in any way you can. If people can't work because they or someone in their family is disabled should they receive aid? Absolutely, without question. If someone is just sitting around living on the government because it's "easier" for them, should they get aid? No. Absolutely not. That's not fair to any person in this country who pays taxes. It's also contributing to the debt of our nation.
On to my next point, and I think this is a very conservative view, but it's how I feel. I don't want the government running my life, telling me what kinds of items I can buy with my hard earned money. I don't want them telling me who to see and where to go when I'm sick or delivering a child. I don't want to be told how to live my life.
Most of all, in the name of political correctness, I don't want to be asked to forget my religious views. I try my best to be a good person. I try not to judge people and try to be kind like everyone else, but just because I disagree with someone who is different than me, be it because of sexual orientation, religion, whatever, doesn't mean I have any less right to speak out. That's what this country is about, speaking out. I also don't think it's right to harass people or to bombard them into our views. I think that the gay and lesbian communities wanting to hold all of these protests and send postcards, etc. specifically directed at the LDS church is ridiculous. They can blame whomever they want, but the measure passed legally in the election. That is the way to fight things, not by defiling a sacred place of worship by yelling and screaming at those going in to find peace. They can disagree with whomever they want. They can hate me, they can hate my religion, they can even disagree with me, but isn't it infringing on my right of freedom of religion and freedom of speech to yell slurs at me as I go to worship in my holy temple?
As far as President Elect Obama is concerned, as I said before, I don't think he's a bad guy. Maybe he'll even do some good things. The nature of politics is that not everybody is happy all the time. That's the way democracy works. If everyone had to agree on everything before anything was decided, nothing would get done. You can't make everyone happy all the time. You can only make some people happy some of the time. That's just the way life, and in this case politics, works.
As I look forward to how my world will unfold and what this election will do to our country I wonder what will happen. I wonder how President Obama will change this country. I am not one of these weirdos saying he will break our country or anything. I don't think any one person can do that. Nobody except God has that kind of power.
Whether you voted Obama or not, which in my case is the latter, it's important to respect those around you. I've endured two years leading up to this election of political propaganda. I don't want to live in that world anymore. It's over. Let's let it be over and move forward.

Twas The Night Before Election...
Between the phone calls from various recordings, endless commercial rants on television, and the mounds of campaign literature that goes straight into the recycle bin at my house, I'm ready for election time to be done. I even had a candidate visit my home on Saturday. He was going door to door to meet as many voters as possible. While I commend the efforts of everyone trying to sway my vote, I've already decided who I'm voting for! It doesn't matter how many leaflets you send, or how many trees you kill to do it, I'm done. Surprisingly, I've gotten much more literature from the democrats rather than the republicans. This was surprising to me because, aren't they supposed to be the "enviornmentalists" out there? Anyway, that's neither here nor there. Granted, I usually vote conservatively. I usually vote republican, but I don't always vote that way. My view is to vote for the person, not the party, at least for the most part.
I am grateful for this nation where we each have the ability to express our own opinion and help choose the leaders here. It's important that everyone go vote. I don't care who you vote for as long as you're voting for who you believe is right. Obviously everyone won't agree on who wins or who each individual is voting for. I hate that everyone has to feel like they have to convert everyone else to their political views. Isn't that taking away from what this country is all about? This country is a wonderful place of varying opinions and different types of people. Others trying to dictate what we believe is not American. I will believe what I will and I will respect your choice to believe what you want, regardless of whether or not it's on the same "side" as me. I won't even try to convert you. I'll just let you be. I wish everyone would let me be. How did the governor get my phone number anyway?

Getting My House In Order
I think the economic crisis has its benefits. All of this talk of money, people losing their homes, people losing jobs, etc. makes me grateful for what I have. One of the things I have realized is that things are not all that important. People are important. We only need what is sufficient for our needs. Everything else is just extra. How many people can say they have extra just laying around? Most Americans probably. Yesterday and today I went through my closet. I sold some things at the second hand store and the rest went to DI. I'm so grateful for what I have. What if that sweater that I never wear anymore or that perfectly good pair of jeans that haven't been worn in months can do somebody some good? It won't do anybody any good sitting in a closet I can tell you that!
I've been thinking a lot about "getting my house in order" and simplifying my life. I feel so much better knowing that the shoes I don't need anymore could be worn by someone that really needs them instead of taking up room in a box that hasn't been opened in months. This also solved another laundry problem! I actually have hangers again! If I need something, thank goodness I have the means to go out and get it, but at least I don't have all of this extra stuff hanging around when it could be out there doing some good.
I guess I'm learning and growing when I don't even know it.
